Citizen Advisory Committees Wanted! Volunteers Needed!

We continue to believe that the 180-day moratorium imposed by the Leelanau Township Board of Trustees was without merit and a blatant abuse of authority. However, we know this current state of affairs is unlikely to change.

In the interest of having a clear, orderly and swift review process we’ve asked our attorney, an experienced certified planner and township attorney, to propose a way for the zoning ordinance review to move forward AND provide a way for greater citizen involvement.

At his suggestion, we are requesting that the LTPC appoint Citizen Advisory Committees for this review. The committees would work with township planning commission members.  This approach is allowed under the Michigan Planning Enabling Act.

Concerned citizens are encouraged to volunteer for these committees.  The committees would review specific articles and sections of the ordinance and they provide reports at public hearings.  This ensures that all  parties have an input in the review.

We welcome the opportunity to provide input and help in resolving the concerns we’ve heard and are excited to begin the open, well-ordered and expeditious review process.
